Attractively screened by dense rhododendron bushes and trees, Crosswoodhill farmhouse is situated well back and across the road from the farm buildings. Guests can relax in their garden and absorb the peaceful atmosphere after a day's touring or strenuous activity. Maybe dine alfresco, perhaps even barbecue with peat. Layout: Guests enter from their own garden at the rear of the farmhouse into their own two-storey home in the middle of the farmhouse. Downstairs is a well-equipped kitchen. Although a galley-style kitchen it really does have all the appliances and gadgets you need and works well for guests. Adjacent is a cosy living room for 4 / dining room for 6: the multi-fuel stove here burns home-produced peat, as well as coal and logs. Full oil-fired central heating throughout the house. There are decent-sized TVs, DVD players and Freeview both upstairs and downstairs, ideal for guests with different viewing tastes. Guests also find having two living areas a real bonus. Ever encountered teenagers keen to get away from their parents and have their own space? Or vice-versa? The Wing is ideal for this. A short flight of
stairs leads up to the more traditional part of the house with old pine
window panelling, working shutters and doors. A
house of great character, guests remark on its lovely atmosphere. Leading
off the passageway with views out over the lawn and trees are a double
bedroom and a bedroom with adult-size bunk beds. The bathroom has a power
shower over the bath. At the far end of the upstairs corridor is a
spacious second living room with a sofa bed and double bed, heaped with
floral cushions for daytime relaxation. Facing windows invite both morning
and evening sunshine, The rear-facing window gives endless pleasure to
bird-watchers who can watch woodpeckers and smaller birds flock to the
bird-table in the garden below. The front-facing window can just be
seen in the photographs on this page.
On request, we can supply a stairgate for toddlers for the foot of the stairs only. What's special? The whole ambience
of the Wing. It dates from the eighteenth century, and has immense
character with its original pine doors, windows, shutters and pine panelling. Furnishing the Wing in a
contemporary style like Orlege just would not
seem right. Yes, the furniture is older, but it is of good quality, much
of it has been in the
Recent comments: "What we liked best was that we adults had our own space. We could enjoy peace and quiet upstairs in the far away room whilst the children made as much noise as they liked downstairs in the small living room." " How nice not to have to go and purchase a potato peeler.... this place is just so amazingly well equipped." "The kids had a ball... there are just so many toys, games and books. And teddies." What's not so special? Only having one
bathroom, even though it's lovely
Having to consider
the sleeping-below-neighbours in the far away
room after 10 pm and keep the noise level down (
but trumpet-blowing downstairs day or night is fine! )
A slightly narrow kitchen.......and that's all really.... guests
really feel at home in the Wing.
