However
if you are nervous about driving into the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow,
let the train take the strain! Park your car, free of charge, either
at West Calder Railway Station ( 6 miles ) or Curriehill Alternatively drive into Edinburgh, street park your car free of charge before entering the restricted parking zone, hop on a bus, buy a day ticket after 09.30 hrs. to the centre, elsewhere, and return, all for far less than you would spend in parking fees.. Split destinations any day? Although a car is essential if staying at Crosswoodhill, there may be days when someone finds themselves left "at home" with no transport. No problem! Our local council offers a subsidised taxi bus service to or from West Calder between the hours of 07.40 hrs and 19.40 hrs.. From West Calder you can link into the Edinburgh - Glasgow train service via Shotts.. This taxi bus service must be booked one hour in advance and costs £2 for an adult one way to West Calder and £1 for a child.Ask for details. Food provisions:
Your hosts:
Hew and Geraldine (known as "G" ) Hamilton farm Crosswoodhill. They live in a separate wing of the farmhouse and are almost always on hand to help, inform and try to make all their guests' Scottish holiday a special one. Crosswoodhill is the only tourism business ever to have scooped the prestigious Scottish Tourism Thistle Award: SELF-CATERING OPERATOR OF THE YEAR more than once, and has now won it 3 times, in 2001, 2005 and 2008. Sponsored by VisitScotland (formerly the Scottish Tourist Board), excellent Customer Care, exceeding expectations, is key to this award. We have kept up the pampering. In November 2002 Crosswoodhill won the Customer Service Award in the annual West Lothian Business Excellence Awards which are open to every kind of business trading in our Region.
![]() We go out of our way to make people smile! Caring for our environment In each property you will find a "Green File" where we try to highlight the eco-friendly things we are doing and ask for your help. For a general overview, please click on our "Environmental Statement / Policy" No smoking policy We want to provide a healthy, safe and comfortable environment for all of our guests, including those that follow you. We therefore provide ashtrays outside and strongly urge you not to smoke inside the accommodation. We greatly appreciate guests' co-operation in keeping it that way. Craigengar, the Wing and Orlege End are totally non-smoking. In the case of Steading Cottage where there is no close overhead protection from the element outside when it is inclement weather, the porch area may be used. Weekly Rental Charges
and Terms of Let:
Extras: We find a huge variation in guests' usage of fuel and electricity. For this reason we feel it is fairer to charge fuel and electricity 'at cost', as an extra, at the end of the stay, based on actual recorded measurements of consumption. That way the more economical guests are not subsidising the more extravagant users as so often happens when an 'all-in rental' figure is quoted. All-in rentals tend to build in a fuel allowance based on average to high usage. Our system means you only pay for what you use. The one exception to this practice is Craigengar where the rental is generally an all-inclusive one.
Telecommunications and wi-fi benefits:
Weekly bookings generally run from a Saturday afternoon to a Saturday morning. Part-week bookings at a lesser rate may be available last minute. Enquiries and booking:
For
your convenience we accept debit and credit card payments in addition to
the more conventional methods.
