General Information about the Accommodation Four
Properties Open All Year What to expect of our
self-catering cottages Beds are made up ready for guests (some have electric blankets). In the kitchen we provide an electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher as well as quality crockery, cutlery, pots and pans, food processor, kettle, coffee maker and toaster. And cooking gadgets galore. Need a hairdryer, ironing board, iron, shoe cleaning equipment? It's all there. Other facilities include washing machine, tumble dryer, colour TV, DVD player, video-recorder and payphone. (As well as being able to ring out, friends and family can reach you direct "at home" if you choose to give out the number.) And to complete the relaxing ambience, all 4 properties now have a hi-fi system. So bring a little bit of "home" away with you in the form of CDs, tapes or DVDs. Relax cosily in front of a multi-fuel stove which burns peat, coal and logs. A flick of a switch will also bring you oil-fired central heating and hot water delivered at times that suit your lifestyle. With a back-up electric immersion heater ( rarely used ), bath and power shower, all the conveniences of modern living are to hand. Child's cot, more portable travel cot, baby intercom, high chair and other gadgets all available on request. Very child-friendly. Both cottages are wheelchair friendly too, particularly Steading Cottage. Car parking for at least 2 cars beside each property. Picnic tables and garden chairs. BBQ available. Private water supply direct from a natural spring on the Pentland Hills. Why not take a look at our Cottages Page with brief descriptions of Midcrosswood, Steading Cottage, the Wing and Orlege End? From there you can then go on to view individual pages for each of these 4 very special properties, each with interior photos, layout plans and more detailed description. Your hosts:
Hew and Geraldine (known as "G" ) Hamilton farm Crosswoodhill. They live in a separate wing of the farmhouse and are almost always on hand to help, inform and try to make all their guests' Scottish holiday a special one. In October 2001, Crosswoodhill scooped the prestigious Scottish Tourism Thistle Award: SELF-CATERING OPERATOR OF THE YEAR. Sponsored by VisitScotland (the new name for the Scottish Tourist Board), excellent Customer Care, exceeding expectations, is key to this award. We have kept up the pampering and in November 2002 Crosswoodhill won the Customer Service Award in the annual West Lothian Business Excellence Awards which are open to every kind of business trading in our Region. And, in the Spring of 2005, after a 4 year gap, Crosswoodhill decided to try again for the Tourism Oscar of Self-Catering Operator of the Year and is thrilled to have won the title once more. This is the first time the award has been won for a second time by the same self-catering operator. ![]() We go out of our way to make people smile! We are "friends" of Pride & Passion, a movement sweeping Scotland which aims to take the visitor's experience from great to greater and make Scotland a must-go destination. Caring for our environment In each property you will find a "Green File" where we try to highlight the eco-friendly things we are doing and ask for your help. For a general overview, please click on our "Environmental Statement / Policy" No smoking policy We want to provide a healthy, safe and comfortable environment for all of our guests, including those that follow you. We therefore provide ashtrays outside and strongly urge you not to smoke inside the accommodation. Smoking upstairs and in the bedrooms is totally unacceptable. However we suspect that there are a minority of guests unwilling to smoke outside in adverse weather conditions, even were smoking to be banned downstairs. Rather than promise a totally unpolluted cottage and occasionally disappoint, we therefore prefer to request "considerate smoking" and we find our guests are almost always pleasantly surprised when they almost always inherit a clean air cottage. We greatly appreciate guests' co-operation in keeping it that way. Weekly Rental Charges
and Terms of Let:
Extras: We find a huge variation in guests' usage of fuel and electricity. For this reason we feel it is fairer to charge fuel and electricity 'at cost', as an extra, at the end of the stay, based on actual recorded measurements of consumption. That way the more economical guests are not subsidising the more extravagant users as so often happens when an 'all-in rental' figure is quoted. All-in rentals tend to build in a fuel allowance based on average to high usage. Our system means you only pay for what you use. Telecommunications:
Weekly bookings generally run from a Saturday afternoon to a Saturday morning. Part-week bookings at a lesser rate may be available last minute. Enquiries and booking:
For
your convenience we can now accept credit card payments in addition to
the more conventional methods.
